House Immigration Sub-Committee is planning on mark up Congresswoman Lofgren's recapture bill tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon in her subcommittee. This is an extremely IMPORTANT development. We are hoping that an agreement reached such that there is no party line vote on this effort. As such all members are requested to PLEASE PLEASE call the following members on the subcommittee requesting them to support Lofgren's recapture bill H.R.5882.

Another option for future Canadian PR's: you can get a business visa to come to the USA. US consulates give such visas much easier to Canadian PR's rather than to just a citizen of India, China, Russia, etc.
Yet another option: get a job with a Canadian company that has an office in your native country. You can get a transfer to that office and work in your homeland (or travel back and forth) while still accumulating days/months/years to qualify for Canadian citizenship.

Long ago, the mice (folks on this forum) held a general council to consider what measures they could take to outwit their common enemy, the cat (read USCIS). Some said this, and some said that; but at last a young mouse got up and said he had a proposal to make, which he though would meet the case.

Now, if we could receive some signal of her approach, we could easily escape from her. The argument that EB2-1 PD will retrogress to 2002 or 2004 does not seem to be based on numbers, but a random speculation. Doesn't not undermine vdlrao's projections in a credible way
Spillover may not be there, or may be there but when the new quota opens up October 1st, new minimum numbers will be available for EB2-I. Worst case scenario, dates will remain static or very minimal backward movement. It looks like the black hole is the time between late 2004 and early 2005, pre-PERM.Other than saying there is massive inventory of backlogged cases, Ron has not given better/ actual numbers of likely pending EB-2 I cases.

My Priority date is Jan 2004, EB3-India category having approved I-140 and applied 485. I have sent my EAD and aP for renewal which expire in last week of September. My spouse is in EB2-India having pd Dec 2005, also applied I-485 (140 is approved) and has applied for EAD and aP renewal which expire in last week fo October. We both applied independently and are using our H1bs and not EAds.
Since my spouse's PD is going to be current in August'2008, I was planning on applying for a second 485 as a dependent on my spouse's application. Questions i have are -
1) I did my medical for previous 485 in June of last year, is that still valid?
2) Can I still keep my previous 485 application or should I cancel it.
3) What should i do about my AP and EAD? I have travelling job and am thinking of looking for a local job around end of the year or begining of next year. So would like to know what I should do about EAD and AP
Lastly is there something i am not thinking of?
Will greatly appreciate your response.

I agree with you. It really amazes me that India is not even saying "something" being a so-called "super-power" in south Asia. Until the last generation of politicians are out of the indian political system, nothing is going to change when it comes to the image or pride of India. At least we should exert out strength and take a leadership role in South Asia and show our power.
India has a history in Sri Lanka. It started long ago with IPKF. A lot of Indian lives were lost because IPKF had to fight the war with their hands tied. IPKF could have captured Pirbhakaran but they did not because Rajeev thought Tamils will not get their rights if they did so. Then Rajeev Gandhi got assassinated. A few years back LTTE had the upper hand and Sri Lankan govt wanted India to step in and help them. India did not sent the troops. now the battle has swung the other way. It is fairly complicated.

You will be considered as anti immigrant if you support any of restriction to H1b or Grassley Bill even if the they are good. Even recapture is passed that will not resolve the problem unless the numbers are huge.Recapture bill will give only limited releif for limited time. If we want all of the problems of High skilled immigration system needs almost unlimited GC numbers and also huge expansion of H1b. That will be nearly impossible for atleast next 5 years or more.
If anyone is having good skills they will escape whatever the restriction they put for H1b. More restriction bad apples will be filtered. If H1b number goes down by restriction waiting time for GC will go down. Most persons will get GC within 2 to 4 years time at the same time best and bright will come here.

I am not a Tamil or Singalese. We cannot say Tamils went to Lanka and asking for homeland. The truth is both Tamils and Singalese migrated from India.
