My H1B visa expires on Sep 22nd of this year. I am going to file for an extension but the only concern i have is my passport expires in July 2010. Does the passport expiry date matter for the H1B extension process..i know that the visa procedure requires a passport valid for at least 6 months.

Hi,
My wife is waiting on her H-1B approval. She is on a H-4 currently. The company that sponsored her H-1B is an american fortune 500. This will be her first H-1B and she is in the USA for 11 months now. I have a few questions:
1. To apply for the SSN she would need the original I-797 and the I-94, correct?
2. After she applies at the SSN office, will she be able to see the number immediately (and wait for the card) ?
3. How long does it normally take them for issuing a SSN for a person like her? (H-4 to first time H-1B)?

you can go to any consulate in india to get you visa stamped, regarding PIMS verification no idea in india if you can verify before you go for stamping.

Change add' online in USCIS website. After few days you will receive confirmation letter. Also send AR-11 for to DHS and confirm with USCIS.
FYI, i saw 2 LUDs on 485 & EAD from the day i changed the address online.
I didn't get second part.
What is DHS?
Which address should I send AR-11 to ?
After all this is done will they resend the returned card or do I have to specifically request for it?

you will see that people that got USCIS I485 receipts, are those whose forms reached USCIS on Jun 25th. That would mean that as of last week USCIS was entering in the cases that came in in the end of Jun. They are not doing July filers yet....
My best bet is that they will begin doing July filers in the middle of next week (7/25) or even later and we will start seeing checks cleared by that date....

Not bad, got visa approved same day. This was my 7th year H1 extension, while I485 is pending, applied last year July..
Got appointment a month before. Consulate automatically checks for PIMS verification within next 2-3 days..I got banamex receipt made by Mexican assistance services, in fact there are many people / company willing to get this receipt made for nominal charges..
Drove to Nogales, AZ. Parked car in one of the parking lot. Cross border by foot through revolving door. No one is there to check any immigration paper for Mexico. People from India do need visa to visit Mexico but rule seems to be bit vague. To visit US consulate in Nogales, one can get local tourist permit (which can be obtained at POA in Mexico immigration. I got Mexico visa for 6 month multiple entry through local Mexican consulate in US. In retrospect, probably I wasted time and money for nothing..No one bothers to check any documents in Mexico, in fact I have look hard to find someone in immigration to stamp my entry in Mexico..
Anyway, got Cab for $7 to US consulate. Reached there at 7.30am. Appointment time was at 8am. But this doesn't matter as consulate will let all Mexican labor visa applicant to go in first (approx 150 of them). I stood in line for about 2 hours, finally got in at 9.30. Process was smooth from there on..got biometrics / photo done and then interview for 2 minutes..IO didn't ask much, just few simple questions..Didn�t even check any extra document. I was advised to come at 3 pm to collect visa which I did. (Spent 4 hours -11am to 3pm in nearby Nogales mall)
Got return cab to border. Took about 30 minutes get new I 94 made. Entered Nogales, AZ comfortably. Car was still parked safely...Returned home happily...Will continue to wait from GC, stuck in PD of April 2006 in EB2

I have finished my 6 years quota of H1B and right now I am on TN visa (I am Canadian). Since I started the green card process a little late, I still need more time to finish the green card process. So, my question is, is there any way I can go back to H1B visa again once my TN visa expires. I can not renew my TN because I have applied already for I-140 and that shows my intent to immigrate to US.

Was your I-140 petition filed when you changed your status from H-1B to TN? In my opinion, it is the I-140 petition that discloses immigration intent. However, as the previous poster mentioned, your employer can extend H-1B after the I-140 approval. Till then I think you have to continue on TN status.

How could your friends get the 3 yr extension in their new company. Did they show their I-140 approval copy from previous company ?

Yes, you do need the I-140 approval from your current employer. We contacted the lawyer directly and obtained all the relevant documents, told them we need for our records. Employer never got involved in this. Hope you can get the approval copy. All the best.
