You cannot change employer and keep I-140 if you have not filed I-485 yet. You will have to start the GC process anew if you change the jobs now. So wait untill you apply for I-485. Wait 180 more days after that and you are free to change jobs if your new job is same or similar to your current job.
As you started your GC just now, it's OK to switch the employer and start the GC process once again. If your new employer is ready to start GC process and ready to offer good package, go ahead and take. Don't even think about any other things. If you have to pay for your GC, you need to work on the pros,cons and expenses.
As the dates retrogressed so badly, there will not be any difference if your PD changes by couple of months.

Thought I should share my EB-3 (horror) story:
First initiated my RIR labor in 01/2002
PD: Aug 02,2002
RD: Sept 18, 2003
Approval: June 19 2007
I765 & 131 renewed 4 times.
Though I graduated with a Masters' degree from here back in '98, I was wrongly advised by a lawyer (who I unfortunately knew) who said I did'nt meet min. salary requirements and put me in EB-3 instead of EB-2 (though all my friends who graduated with me were in EB-2 and I knew they could'nt be making a whole lot more than I was). So if your lawyer wants to put you in EB-3 even though you're eligible for EB-2 change lawyers right away; It will mean a world of difference when things go bad. Chances are, the lawyer wants minimum paperwork & hassles to deal with. To add to bad luck, I had an Indian manager who refused to pay for my green card and even the ads for RIR labor, even though he got his green card paid for. Anyways priority dates were current for all categories back then (2002-3) just like it is today when they reclaimed unused numbers so this attorney had said EB3 vs EB2 won't be a problem and convinced me to go with EB3. This 'current' situation went on for some time (a year or so perhaps(?) to 2004 or 05; I do not remember) and then the DOS went and retrogressed EB3 back to 1999! During the year or two Priority Dates were current the INS (as it was called then) took their sweet time in processing cases progressing real slow. So when they were about 3-4 months away from processing my PD and I thought I was real close to 485 approval, the DOS did their thing and retrogressed dates all the way back to 1999 and has become current only now. It hit me with a gale force effect when it retrogressed.
It's almost like things swing like a pendulum between the two departments. If you're real lucky and time it right things can go smooth. If not yes you're screwed like I was and things can go bad one after the other. This time around I was almost sure the USCIS will take a go slow policy and wait for dates to retrogress once again like the last time. I was very surprised by the HUGE movements of 485 processing dates. Things are looking far better this time with these dates. Focus on getting your EAD and Advance paroles ASAP. I-140 premium processing will be worth it. Good luck to you all.

Sorry to hear your story man. I can empathize with you coz I went through hell last July/2007. I tried to advance the wedding and it caused havoc in the family. I got married in End of Aug/07 and by then the dates retrogressed back.
Getting back to your situation:
1) F-1 is sure is an option. She will have to make sure that she is independent on her own application.
2) H-1 is an option as well, but then she will have to wait for next year lottery b.s.
3) Now that you have G.C. you can go back to India and work. There is some restriction as to how you can maintain your GC.
You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:
* Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
* Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
* Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.
* Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns.

I am trying to port EB3 to EB2 but can not find an employer who will file labur for EB2. Can some one send good Desi Employers by Private email.
Also I talked to one employer and he said that I have to bring experience certificate from current employer to show my experience for EB2. The current employer says he will give the experience certificate but write only one line. ..... Any tips here.
By the way kumars story is very interesting. Here some companies thinks following thats many who working Fortune 500 companies are in EB3 or nowhere.

The fact is republicans don’t like non whites to immigrate to US and the democrats are color blind to most extent but they are class conscious, they like illegals and poor people to immigrate to US because they can control them whereas they cannot control and herd the EB immigrants.
"reforming" the US immigration system by introducing a points based system where even existing applicants like the EB folks who have been in US for the last 10+ years have to re apply in points based nonsense system.
We will all have to fight for our cause but don’t have unrealistic expectations from CIR. Our best bet is a non cir piece meal bill visa recapture bill that addresses EB issues seperate from CIR, it is difficult to get such a bill passed but the chances for such a bill are better then Obama-durbin cir

My biggest fear is "choking up of the already inefficient system"...currently we at least can apply for something and expect it to be processed in few months (longer in some cases), get our EADs and APs renewed, call customer service with questions (although don't get needed info in most cases), get infopass....when they try to deal with "blue cards" and Z visas of 12 million plus illegals, none of this will be available.
And I do not want to start GC process from "scratch" in point bases system when I have spent so much time, money and energy in the current process...
Only and only Ron Gotcher can say "once CIR passes, everything will be current and stay current..." DREAM COME TRUE!

When I joined this forum it was to look advice on my case and to offer help when I could. No one has ever taken the time to explain what the objectives of the Core are. What I see alot of are #1 asking people to contribute and #2 members complaining about people asking their questions in the wrong area or opening too many threads. Someone needs to explain fully what Core is doing and list ways for the members to help. I would love to help if I can. Unfortunately I don't have a lot to offer financially being that my husband and I are living off one income. I wish I could go to the rally but I cant afford to do that either. There must be some way that I can help- stuffing envelopes or something- anything. But what I would love to see is an explanation of what it is the Core is trying to accomplish and a set of guidelines for posting if possible because I am so sick and tired of seeing "please close this thread"
