Dear Michigan Members,
This mail is to update you guys on the outcome of meeting with Staff Assistant of Senator Carl Levin (Michigan) and members of Immigration voice namely
Gajendra Prasad
Stanley Samuel
Manoj kumar
We emphasized the following points
1. We are not talking about H1 increase.
2. Reverse Brain drain impacts.
3. Outsourcing economies gaining edge because of Americas poor legal immigration policies.
4. Delays in normal processing.
5. Impact of Backlogs on America competitiveness.
6. Impact of Backlogs on immigrations careers and their contribution to the industry.
7. Details of Presidents State of union Address for legal immigrants.
8. Statistical details which have shown immigration does not affect Americas growth but helps growth of America.
9. Requests of immigration voice.
We quoted our personal life experience and the hindrances we encounter in our career growth.
I have to say the points were observered with a positive note. and the staff said that these will be conveyed to the Senator.
He also suggested, to contact the media, which we are doing and also told,
he was also aware of immigration voice and its good doings.
He also told the Senator voted in favour of CIR 2006.
He suggested having a direct meeting with Senator would definetly help, as it would have a better impact, but he said that it would be easy to get an appointment of the Senator in DC. At this point, we have requested the immigration voice DC members whether they can have an meeting with the Senator and we can arrange the same with this staff member.
He also requested, if any of our member are meeting with the same Senator office staff in different location(Detroit, Grand Rapids,Escabana etc), please refer this staff name for continuity reasons.

I will be sending a Thank you letter soon to this Staff.
We are waiting on Appointment from the following office as we have already faxed the request for appointments, after our initial telephonic request.
1. Senator Debie Stabenow - Michigan.
2. Congress Man Mike Rogers - Michigan 8th District.
3. Congress Man Tim Walberg - Michigan 7th District.
Actions Items.
1. Update Michigan members on the meeting and Request them to refer to our discussion, if they meet the same senators office staff in any other offices.
2. Contact Michigan Public Radio for an interview on our issue.
3. Contact Lansing State Journal for an article on our issue.
4. Follow up on other Law makers.

I dont think you need to be worried. my friend( Came to US in 2003 after working in offshore with the same company for 2 years, but his company filed his GC only in 2006) got this interview in March 2008, they reviewed all his papers(W2's, Birth Certificate,all Employment letters) and said that its ready to go when PD becomes current. His PD is 2006 March ( Perm),EB3, I 140 Approved , and now he is waiting for his dates to become current to get the GC. His case is pre-adjudicated and is ready to be released as per USCIS. His attorney didnt go for the Interview.
One of friend attend the interview in Feb. 2008 his PD is Dec2006 EB2,they asked him his birth certificates,W2,recent pay slips proof for his current employment, after the interview they told him that your case has been approved but you need to wait until your PD gets current.

Guys,
Its quite a gathering out here who have shown some interest or support for the Green card issue for the PhDs. I see numbers increasing slowly. I am networking and try to get more PhDs involved and become aware of the PACE Bill. Friends from many universities are contemplating the line of action to get a change in the language as well as to include the current PhD students/PhD holders in getting benefits from the bill.
I and my friends have drafted a letter and will be sending to our senator (Allen Specter) very soon. It will be great if many more enthusiasts come out and show their support / give their suggestions openly.
So lets keep it rolling.

There were about 600,000 AOS applications including the July and August filers. So that number less 60,000...roughly about 540,000 applications still pending with USCIS....

This is just a humour but has a meaning underneath if you try to understand. I am comparing USCIS to a product selling company. If USCIS was a TV selling company what would happen to the customers the way it acts ?
You could buy a TV but you will not know when you will get it. It could be shipped the next week, the next month, next year or never.
The credit card will be charged once, may be charged twice or a valid CC may get rejected.
Somebody who buys a TV from USCSIS a 2 years after you do, he may get it sooner than you do.
USCIS has no way of knowing how many TVs have been ordered and how many of them are in stock.
In case you do not receive your TV in two years, USCIS acknowledges that there is a long wait time for some and does not do anything about it. USCIS thinks acknowledgment of wait time is more than enough that it has done for the customers. Customers did not deserve this but USCIS did a favour to them being a good "Customer Service" company
There would be an online survey after you buy it which would never get submitted 99% of the times.
In case it did get submitted, somebody will read one out of 10,000.
After reading it he will throw it in the trash can.
If you get a defective TV (which is quite likely), you have a chance to file appeal by paying the same amount of money for the TV again so that your case can be re-opened.
I wonder how many customers would USCIS have eventually ??? Any guesses ??? :-)

After July VB fiasco, they cannot sit on it as they have created landmines. They lied in the past about the processing delays for lack of resources. If they decide to stand by that lie, then they are creating landmines for themselves towards future. If they dont stand by that lie, then any small mistake will be exposed with seveal questions from outside. The only way out is to go to Pappa and ask for his signature on the solution. They have all the solutions and we dont have to tell them any.

IV have given enough information to everyone. IV have proved that they can do it if they get our support.
What else do we want, when we have people willing and taking efforts to go to DC sacrificing their personel time, family and spending their own money. Time has come for everyone to come forward and contribute money. They along with QGA are meeting the senators.
For those who have contributed more than once, thanks a lot to you guys. For those who have not contributed so far, please come forward and please contribute money. Contributing money to IV is not going to make you rich or poor. By contributing money to IV you are doing a favor to yourself.

It appears that most of the one sided agreeements mentioned above are not legal. For eg if in ur offer letter u have 2 weeks of notice period from your side and company says they can termniate you without any notice period then its not legal.
I think only 2 side agreements are legal and all other agreements even if you sign are not legal.
(pls confirm with ur lawyer ...)

waiting from 2005 is not at all a big deal, some folks here are waiting for a decade to get a chance to apply for 485 (due to BEC black hole, having to restart GC process from scratch due to various reasons ..etc)

Get your facts straight. "Undocumented" does not mean a person who has "lost" his documents....it means a person about whom there is no record (i.e. documentation) at the USCIS/Dept. of State. A legal immigrant would not become out of status just because he lost his documents or they were destroyed in a flood or fire because there are typically copies and records available at the employer, the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the USCIS. A person who has all his documents would still be classified as illegal if he or she overstays their visa.
Anyways....please do not try to hijack this thread in a different direction than what is intended. After a series of hearing by the strongly enforcement only leaning house questioning each and every aspect of the CIR with negative connotations, finally, there is a hearing organized by Senator John Cornyn, who was instrumental in getting the SKIL bill included in the CIR focusing on something positive and fairly non-controversial in the CIR/SKIL/PACE bills and that directly affects all of us legal, documented, high skilled immigrants.
SO, to bring the thread back to its original intended path...Are there any members in the Dallas or nearby areas who would be interested in attending the hearing, please contact himanshu at immigrationvoice.org The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

I recently moved to Cincinnati, OH.
My I-485 was filled in TSC; when I did an e-file today for I-131, the receipt confirmation documents to send it to TSC.
All other documents on the uscis site suggest sending it to NSC based on OH State.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
