We have been living in a county which has implemented 287g for some time. And I believe all legal residents in my county feel safer because of its implementation. Sure, there is a chance that 287g can be misused by the police. But tell me one law which can not be misused by police.
The thing is that more counties are signing on to 287g. St. Mary's County Joins Controversial Federal Immigration Initiative - Southern Maryland Headline News (http://somd.com/news/headlines/2010/11667.shtml).
I went thru the proposal in Arizona and could not find even one point which might be bad for us. Did any of you find something? Format Document (http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/legtext/49leg/2r/summary/h.sb1070_04-13-10_houseengrossed.doc.htm). I feel, IV should support such laws. We want the citizens and law abiding people in this country to support us; not the illegals.

This bill will only lead to profiling!!!!!!!!!!! and never in the world's history has profiling been good. Come out of your "slave" mentality.......... Today these laws are targeting illegal immigrants. Tomorrow what are the chances that they will do the same for legal immigrants? Or are you hoping that you will be a GC/citizen by the time such laws are proposed and implemented and there fore do not have to worry........
Read some articles that are out there against this bill - you will understand that it takes away resources to fight crime.........wonder if you will feel so safe then or do you live in a gated community?
As for nothing in the bill that is harmful to us - have you got any idea on how politics works? "You scratch my back and I will scratch yours" Find a single legislator who will take on legal immigration issue, that will not be opposed by the hispanic community and the anti immigrant community (even the ones that say they are for legal immigrants - divide and rule or have you forgotten your history lessons back home)

Another thought: the flyer we have now was a good start, and at the time when we started we didn't have other material in place.
But esp in places which have a real bulletin board where information will stay on for a while, I think we should give out a little more information on who we are, what the problems is and what we are asking for.
So at a place like ICC, maybe we should pin a copy of our brochure, and another sheet formatted like the brochure in which we give instructions on how to donate money.
The brochure format and content also looks professional, more credible than a flyer that resembles flyers for rentals, car sales etc etc.

If you are planning on taking action against the attorney for fraud and mis representation, you may want to file a complaint in the bar of the state where your attorney practices. Bar complaints are taken very seriously and if you have proper documentation and are ready for the fight, he could even lose his license and/or penalized by the bar.

My labor was filed on July 2004 and I have not received an approval yet.
I got an RFE last week stating that Employeer has to again prove the RIR status of the application.
So Lawyer has started the advertisement process again.
I am in similar situation, My PD is AUG04, EB2(Traditional), stuck at PBEC, I got an RFE saying they have only the first page of the application. My lawyer just sent all the paper work. I am currently on my 10th year on H1B. Lost my first LC to sep 11 and since then stuck with PBEC. I guess these things happen thats all. I am hopeing they will start I-140 premium process again.

We should be happy that we would be much better than the local guys after gettting our green card. We can offshore jobs to our native countries and earn good money and retire soon.
Every coin has two sides, offshoring is good as well as bad. I am from non IT field and would offshore my jobs to india as soon as i get my green card. I hope not much americians can compete me but some chinese can.

I got my GC after 6 years of application and 10 years arrival. Initially the GC was not a goal, probably a mistake.Later on it felt like it was hampering my dreams. With the passage of some more time, realized that dreams were not really dependent on the GC, but it was a nice crutch. Getting the GC does bring about some stability brought about by the job flexibility, but the lack of one did not prevent me from changing jobs, marrying, having kids, buying a home, or searching for better opportunities. I really can't say, I lost a good opportunity because I did not have a GC, but I did use it as an excuse.
Nevertheless, not a look a gift horse in the mouth, the GC was a much awaited event and milestone. I am now officially an immigrant, and I did open a champagne bottle on that day and have a dinner out with the family.
- Any advice for everyone?

Filing Fee is not enclosed as it is USCIS service error.
(This was done as officer at USCIS told that Fee need not be included as it is service error, attorney also agreed with this statement).
Problem with not including filing fee is you do not get the receipt or receipt number, Hence difficult to track.

very well said goel.. I said the same thing to IV and I got God knows how many reds. The only time I saw a huge impact was after July fiasco but again it was not IV's alone effort, many other organizations were included.
Honestly IV is a great platform to help members with their questions and exchange knowledge about immigration topics but nothing more.. I don't expect the founders to leave their full time jobs to address immigration issues as without a job they won't have any immigration issues.
To people who say that illegals have huge support and resources that is because they have lobby money from businesses who need cheap labor, lawyers who need new clients and politicians who need (future) votes..
In our case business know that first we are not any cheap and second they can move the jobs overseas.. Lawyers already know that they have us by the b***s and politicians flip - flop depending on who they talk to (citizens or us).
I think I have joined IV in last 3 years or so...
Donated money once & have called congressmen & senators many times ...
Could someone please tell me -
What has been achieved by IV till date? I know we all meet elected reps, officials in washington dc ..... but I am interested in end result like not wasting visa numbers , implementing spillover & along these lines.
I have asked few friends to join IV but then if they ask me for IV accomplishments - i can't count any....

Have to give American consulates in India the credit that they have outsourced some job to external private companies.
At Indian consulate the story is quite different. There are many who share Pooja's feeling on this subject as being used to dealing with efficient private businesses in US, as soon as you enter the consulate, the sarkari inefficiency hits you like a ton of bricks. Every small screwup looks like a giant under our microscope and each further screwup just frustrates us exponentially.
As per my last visit to SF consulate, bracing for the worst, I got a surprise to find that it was a breeze, mostly because the lady at the counter was more compassionate and accommodating then the prior ones. But the failure is glaringly at the top level where they fail to define and refine the process, proof-read the information on website (list of document is vague and contains repetitions).
To summarize I think good workers can deliver some time, but the team will ultimately be a failure without good management at the top, and we all know the top management is sarkari babus who could care less as they were appointed from the sifarish of the Govt in New Delhi and not on their own merit.
